Nowadays remedies against cold, flu and other infectious illnesses are being developed using Sambucus nigra fruit or flowers.

Flowers and berries of Sambucus nigra are known as a traditional remedy for various kinds of ailments and diseases and both are commonly used in folk medicine (Kohlmünzer, 1998).
